WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?

Posted on Sunday the 2nd of February 2020

You might notice a new weather link in the menu bar above. I've spent a few days integrating the website with a Weewx database connected to my weather station. I have most of the important information done, which is step 1. I now want to include some third-party stuff as well (like radar, forecast, etc).

The weather station is a Fine Offset WH3081. I've had a my fair share of issues with it but overall it works OK. The only major downside is the solar sensor is NOT made for Australian conditions. Our sun just gets so hot it overloads the sensor and I've gone through 2 sensors in the time I've had it. The rain sensor also gets clogged up from time to time. Maintenance is required if you are using these stations.

I have the base station connected via USB (that's another problem with the WH3081) to a RaspberryPi 3 running Raspbian and Weewx. Weewx is then connected to a MariaDB database running on an Unraid server. It works fairly well except when the database goes offline for to long and Weewx thinks it's killed the connection and crashes...

I only have a few days worth of data in the database (I do have backups of all my old data but I want to make sure this all works before going to the effort of restoring it). Now if we could just get some rain...
